Dear Friends,

We're excited to kick off the new year and create with your young artists!

ARTLAB AFTERSCHOOL is back and we've set the dates for the reminder of the school year.  ARTLAB will now run in eight-week sessions but offer flexibility for teens to register in four-week blocks.
We're also pushing back the start time to 4:30pm to give students from
surrounding areas the chance to participate and take advantage
of open studio.

Students also suggested more opportunities to collaborate with peers,
so we developed a new program to do just that. The second Fridaynight of every month, NHIA Youth Arts will host CoLAB, for teens to come together and collaborate on artistic projects. It will be a time for young artists to pull inspiration from one another, explore different studios on NHIA's campus and share their voice and skills with other
young creatives.

Needs based scholarships are available for both ARTLAB and CoLAB.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

May your 2018 be filled with creativity, inspiration, and collaboration!

With gratitude and best wishes,
Jaclynn Hart
Director of Youth Arts

ARTLAB AFTERSCHOOL - Ages 12-18
Wednesdays starting 1/31 and/or Thursdays starting 2/1, 4:30 - 6:30pm
ARTLAB is designed to support teens in building their artistic practice and individual style while offering exposure to new materials and techniques. Under the mentorship of faculty, artists, and NHIA artist-teacher candidates, teens will be challenged to step out of their creative comfort zones and explore a theme through various independent and collaborative 2D and 3D projects. This is the perfect opportunity for young creatives of all levels to push their artistic boundaries, meet other local teens, gain experience in various mediums and challenge themselves through creative experimentation. ARTLABs end with a pop-up gallery reception for teens to showcase their work to family and friends.
COST: $59 for four weeks or $100 for eight weeks.

FRIDAY NIGHT CoLAB - Ages 13-18
First CoLAB starts 2/9, 5:00 - 9:30pm
CoLAB is a safe space for creativity, ideas, experimentation, and materials to collide. Each month we're taking over a different studio at NHIA and together young artists, will spend their Friday night exploring new ideas and creating original collaborative art pieces. Emphasis will be placed on the creative process, communication, collaboration and (of course) fun! Supplies and dinner included.
COST: $38 for one evening of CoLAB or $35 for each CoLAB when you register for two or more.

UNH High Technology Day

We are writing to invite you and your students to the eleventh annual Explore High Technology Day at the University of New Hampshire. This event will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in Kingsbury Hall on the UNH Durham campus.

Anticipated sessions expected to include:

   *  Explore the UNH Human Computer Interaction Laboratory.

   *  Watch demonstrations by the UNH InterOperability Laboratory, which tests

data networking technologies through industry collaboration.

   *  Operate VEX Robots.

   *  Discover the Raspberry Pi, a credit-card-sized-single-board computer.

   *  Build 2D animations using Adobe Flash.

   *  Experiment with micro-controllers for the Internet of Things.

   *  Hear about careers in high tech.

   *  Create a computer program in one hour!

High technology drives the New Hampshire economy. An important factor in the success of NH's high-tech industry is the availability of a well-educated workforce. To continue this success in the face of a soon-to-be declining number of high school seniors, we need to recruit a higher percentage of students into high-tech majors.

The goal of Explore High Technology Day is to portray, through demonstrations and hands-on workshops, how exciting high-tech projects and careers can be.  The day will consist of five, 50-minute sessions plus a free lunch.

The day’s events will begin at 8:30am and end at 1:40pm. It is possible to skip sessions at the beginning or end of the day to account for travel to and from Durham. Come to as many or as few sessions as makes sense for your students.  Please fill out the attached registration form and send back via email to office@cs.unh.edu or by fax to 603-862-3493.  Space fills up quickly and is given on a first come, first served basis.  Additionally, there is a limit of 20 students per school (additional students can be put on a waitlist).

Please see:  https://cs.unh.edu/high-technology-day-2018 for more information.

SPLASH Program at MIT

The MIT Splash program, a weekend of mini-courses for students in grades 9-12, held November 17 and 18 (the weekend before Thanksgiving) on the MIT campus.

For just $40, students can choose from over 400 mini-courses (each about 90 minutes long) in subjects like Quantum Mechanics, Hungarian history, Origami, Lasers, Music Theory, Neuropharmacology, and Beginner Ukelele, to name just a few.

Over the course of the weekend, students can get their feet wet with an introduction to subjects they’ve always wanted to explore and topics they never knew existed—or dive head first into an in-depth seminar or intensive workshop. There really is something for everyone - and the price is right!

Registration will open soon, so please pass this link on to any students you think may be interested: https://esp.mit.edu/learn/Splash/index.html
