Manchester High School West
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
SAT Makeup Day is Tuesday, October 27th
PSAT for Sophomores & Paying Juniors is Thursday, October 29th
West High School will be administering the PSAT on Thursday, October 29th to all sophomores and any paying juniors. The PSAT is the Practice test for the SAT which is a college entrance exam required by most four year colleges. Both the SAT and PSAT measure critical reading, writing and mathematics skills. Sophomores will be taking the exam free of charge but any junior wishing to take it will need to pay $25.00 by cash, check or money order made out to Manchester High School West by this Friday, October 2nd at 2:30 PM. Sophomores can request a practice booklet from their school counselor and juniors will get one when they pay. For test day, please encourage your student to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive to school with a mask no later than 7:55 AM with two #2 pencils, a pen with black or dark blue ink and a calculator. Cell phones are strictly prohibited during testing, including during breaks. If you have any questions, please contact your senior's school counselor.

West High Spring Art Show 2020
Artwork will be displayed on the Manchester High School West web page all summer. It features art made by West High learners, faculty and alumni.
Every year the West High Art department has put on the Spring Art Show. Traditionally it has food, music and guest judges and it is set up in the hallway outside the library for a special ceremony. It was always open to the public on that night and in the recent past we have left it up for staff, students and district guests to access it for an entire week. This year, with COVID-19 and remote learning, we have decided to create a virtual art gallery for the work.

The expectation for WHS is that all students will check-in four days each week (Monday & Tuesday then Thursday & Friday)
with EACH of their classroom teachers at the beginning
of each scheduled class period.
(Wednesdays are for enrichment, extra-help and time to work on any assignment due)
Students should be working remotely on assignments and submitting work as instructed by their teachers.

Makin' It Happen Salutes our Kimiya!
Kimiya was chosen for her work on substance misuse prevention for over 4 years. This is not always a popular activity amongst teens but Kimiya quietly but passionately did wonderful work to educate her peers. Kimiya is mature beyond her years and we know whatever she puts her mind to she will succeed and make a change in this world.

The Boys & Girls Club of Manchester announces
Paige is competing for the title of NH State Youth of the Year!
Congratulations, Jacob McClelland
Congratulations to our first Harbor Freight Fellow in New England: Jacob McClelland!
Jacob completed his internship at Werner Mazda in Manchester, NH under the mentorship of Patrick Driscoll.
What is the Harbor Freight Fellowship?
Big Picture Learning, with support from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, has designed a new form of apprenticeships for youths and young adults who show significant potential and passion for the traditional and contemporary trades. Harbor Freight Fellows provides deep and sustaining relationships with expert mentors and access to communities of practice in their area of passion.
We support apprenticing experiences with professional trades persons at their businesses.
We will provide:
A $1,000 scholarship to the youth for 120 hours of apprenticing with a trades person Mentor.
A $500 stipend to the professional trades person Mentor.
A $500 stipend to the supporting staff member (the Advisor) at the referring school or organization.
A $250 to allowance for tools to the Fellow.
What does Jacob have to say about the internship program?
"It helped me see the options I have and it showed me what I should look for when I need to get better, like colleges and trade school. I also can better myself with Mazda ́s specified training classes that I could take. This internship showed me that I work a lot and I never complained cause it's something I wanted to do. It improved my hands-on and listening skills, and made my love and passion for my trade grow even more than it was before."
Are you a senior (or soon to be) with a deep passion for the trades? Reach out to your school counselor to learn more!
